About jLanguage

jLanguage is a word-of-the-day project: one English word each day, translated into many languages — from Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin to Finnish, Northern Sami, and Khmer — with example sentences, audio, and practice exercises. It lives here on the web and as an iOS app whose widgets put the daily word on your lock screen, home screen, and Apple Watch.

It is an independent, one-person project, built because learning a handful of languages at once is more fun than it has any right to be.

How the content is made

The daily words are generated on our server, not on your device:

We say this plainly because machine-generated content can contain mistakes — an etymology or usage note may occasionally be wrong. If you spot one, please tell us at [email protected] and we will fix it.

Privacy, briefly

No accounts, no ads, and practice progress stays on your device. The website counts page visits with self-hosted, cookie-free analytics that store no personal data; the iOS app contains no analytics at all. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.
