Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
jLanguage is a personal language-learning app that delivers a word of the day with translations. This policy explains what data the app collects and how it is used.
Data We Collect
jLanguage does not collect any personally identifiable information. Specifically:
- No account required. The app works without signing in.
- Cookie-free, self-hosted analytics on the website only. The website counts page visits with a self-hosted Umami instance — no cookies, no personal identifiers, no third parties (see "Website Analytics" below). The iOS app contains no analytics at all.
- No data sent to us. Your language preferences, settings, and practice progress (which letters you've practised and starred) are stored locally on your device.
Network Requests
The app connects to api.jlangapp.com solely to fetch the daily vocabulary word. No device identifiers, IP addresses, or user data are logged or retained beyond standard web server access logs, which are discarded after 7 days.
Website Analytics
The website (not the app) uses a self-hosted Umami instance running on our own server to understand which pages are visited. It is cookie-free and stores no personal identifiers and no raw IP addresses — visitors are counted via a rotating salted hash, and everything stays on our server. Nothing is shared with any third party, and there are no cookies to consent to.
On-Device Storage
Word history, language settings, and alphabet practice progress are stored locally in an App Group container shared between the app and its widgets. On the website, practice progress is kept in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device, and clearing your browser or app data removes it.
Third-Party Services
Word content is generated using the Google Gemini API. No user data is sent to Google — only requests for vocabulary words are made server-side.
Children's Privacy
jLanguage does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL.
